Good afternoon Members!

A spring update from the board.

UPDATE re COVID-19

The board had it’s first virtual meeting recently.  It was great to be able to formally continue our conversations as they relate to our current closure and how we plan to move forward once we are given the green light to reopen.  You should expect that we will work quickly to reopen the club.  It might not be immediately upon an announcement from Premier Ford, as it will depend on the conditions attached to our reopening, but know that we will send out another similar update ASAP.

We look forward to seeing you all out on the range!

Liberal Government Banning firearms

Most of you are aware of the Order in Council (OIC) that was announced on Friday, May 1st, 2020, by the Prime Minister with regards to over 1,500 firearms.

The board has been reaching out to the firearm organizations for further information and planned actions.  We will update you more as we hear back.  As always, you should reach out to your local MP and express your concerns over this recent action, and the lack of a democratic process being followed.  You should also consider supporting as many of the gun organizations as you can.  We are hoping there will be legal challenges and they will need our support now more than ever.

We would also like to encourage members to sign the following two petitions:

Michel Rempel Garner – Conservative MP, published this parliamentary petition yesterday and already has almost 65,000 signatures.  Once completed, you should receive an email that requires you to verify in order for your signature to be valid.

https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2574

There is a petition on Change.org that has reached over 205,000 signatures in just 6 days.

Please take a few minutes to read both of them, and if you agree, please sign them.

CSSA Statement regarding 10 and 12 gauge shotguns

The executive is aware of the statement from the CSSA where they reference a legal opinion relating to modern 10 and 12 gauge shotguns exceeding a bore size of 20mm.  Minister Bill Blair has confirmed publicly that shotguns were not included in the OIC and that “Both 10 and 12 gauge shotguns are under the 20mm provision, and thus not subject to the prohibition.”   We will monitor this situation going forward.

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
